Apple fans touch CEO Tim Cook's feet at Delhi store

Apple CEO Tim Cook got a celebrity-like welcome at the company’s newly opened retail store in Delhi’s Select CityWalk mall at Saket. Hundreds of Apple fans lined up outside the new Apple Store to get a glimpse of the Apple CEO. Some of them even touched his feet on their way to the store. This is only Apple’s second store in India after Apple BKC which was opened earlier this week and saw a similar reaction from Apple fans across the country.

In Delhi, fans had started lining up outside the store as early as 7:30 am, with queues going all the way to the outside of the mall. The queues were only getting longer and there were people as far as you could see. There were ‘Dhols’ playing inside the mall and a lot of people got their old products to get them signed by the Apple boss.

Tim Cook finally opened the doors at 10 am and met the first bunch of customers who went inside. He welcomed them with a namaste, shook hands with them, but the emotions were on full display when a bunch of these fans went on to touch Cook’s feet, showing what it truly meant for them to be there. Cook was very calm amid all the enthusiasm and energy. He met the initial bunch of customers individually, clicked pictures with them and even signed their items.

One such lucky fan was Lakshya, who brought the parts of an iPhone 4s with him to the store – the first iPhone Cook launched after taking over as Apple CEO. The nicely preserved iPhone 4s sat inside a thick photo frame. Lakshya got the frame signed by Cook. Another old couple from Delhi got their tote bags signed by Cook. In another heart-warming story, Jodhpur-based Madhav has been traveling over the past week. He first went to the Mumbai store and was one of the first to get inside and was now in Delhi to experience the Saket store.

We covered similar stories from Mumbai where a man got his 10-year-old iPod signed by Tim Cook while another brought a 1984 Macintosh SE which even surprised the Apple boss.

Apple’s Delhi store is smaller than the Mumbai store but will offer all services to its customers. It has a 70-member staff from 18 different states of India and collectively they can speak about 15 languages. The store has a uniquely designed curved storefront with white oak tables showcasing the company’s many products and accessories. There are dedicated sections for iPhones, MacBook, Apple accessories, Apple Music, Apple Arcade and Apple TV.
