Work underway to set up EV charging stations at 22,000 of 70,000 petrol pumps in country: Govt

Work is being carried out to regulate electric charging stations at 22,000 of 70,000 gas stations throughout the country, the government told Rajya Sabha on Friday. Replying complementary during the question and answer hours, the heavy minister of Mahendra Nath Pandey said the first priority was to establish a charging station for electric vehicles on the express highway, highways and residents.

He also said the government under faster adoption and manufacturing (hybrid) in India (Indian Fame) -II scheme has directed Arai in Pune, an institution that works in the field of cars, to develop a prototype for fast filling of electrical vehicles. The aim was to have it on the market on December 2022, Pandey said.

He said work was ongoing on this project and he hoped that the prototype would be prepared in October or next year. “Our services together with the Ministry of Petroleum and power together work towards the implementation of Indian Fame. We work to prepare charging stations in 22,000 out of a total of 70,000 gas stations throughout the country and work in this matter,” The minister notifies the house.

“Our priority is to arrange the charging station on the express highway, highways and residents and later, this will be reduced to rural areas. But our priority is currently in these three fields,” he said. Pandey also told the house that the work was underway to produce a lithium battery in this country to make India Mandiri and an incentive scheme associated with the 18,100 crore RS scheme (PLI) has evolved.

“RFP has floated and there is a good response from the industry. We move quickly towards making India Mandiri,” he said. For waste disposal, he said the technical committee of the Ministry of Environment has been finalized in the rules for managing battery waste, 2019 to find a solution to the problem of waste management and it will send its report immediately, the minister told.

In his written answer, Pandey also said, “Phase-II of the adoption and manufacture of electric vehicles (Hybrid &) faster in India (Indian Fame) is being carried out for a period of five years WEF April 1, 2019, with a total budget support RS 10,000 crores . under the Phase-II scheme Fame-India, Rs 1000 CR allocated for the development of charging infrastructure. “The Ministry (Strength) has sanctioned 2,877 charging stations electric vehicles in 68 states / uts and 1,576 charging stations in nine freeway and 16 Highways under the Indian Fame II Fame Scheme, “Pandey said.

According to the guidelines for the Ministry of Power, there must be at least one charging station at 25 km on both sides of the highway and also at least one filling station for the long term and EV heavy duty on both sides of the highway. For the city at least one charging station will be arranged in a grid of 3 km at 3 km, he also said.
