Elizabeth Holmes, so Silicon Valley Star, guilty of Theranos fraud trial

San Francisco: Falling Biotech Stars As Elizabeth Holmes was punished on Monday to deceive investors in the startup betup of his blood test, in the case of a high profile seen as a cultural indictment of the silicone valley.
The Juror found Holmes guilty of four charges of deceiving investors to pour money into what he claimed to be a revolutionary testing system, after a complex and long trial. They released him from a number of charges he had faced, and did not reach the verdict to others.

The 37-year-old player is now facing the possibility of many years behind bars, in a case that judges the line between Hustle and Criminal Startup.

Holmes vowed to revolutionize diagnostics with supermarkets that can run a series of tests only on blood drops, visions that attract high profile supporters and make it billionaire at the age of 30.

He was praised as the next visionary technology about the cover of the magazine and gathered mountains of investor cash, but everything collapsed after Wall Street Journal Reporting revealed the engine did not work as promised.

The prosecutor spent 11 weeks presenting more than two dozen witnesses, when they struggled to put their arguments that Holmes knew the technology did not work as promised and took steps to mislead investors and patients.

He personally put the Pharma Giants Pfizer logo and Schering-PLOW to the Theranos report calling the company’s blood testing technology, which was then shared with investors.

It was done without the company’s permission, and was the main work of the argument of prosecution that he was deliberately trying to expand Theranos’s credibility to win supporters.

– ‘fake until you make it’ –

Even though the Theranos investor was a big name like Rupert Murdoch and Henry Kissinger were on a list of witnesses, the most prominent supporters to accommodate the head of the former Head of the Pentagon Jim Mattis.

The defense only called one important witness, Holmes himself, because it argued that entrepreneurs who fell truly believed in Theranos’s vision, invested himself in his success but only failed.

Holmes also tried to shift some mistakes to Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, a girlfriend for almost two senior decades she brought to help run her company.

He fought tears when he told the judges that Balwani humbled it and forced himself to him sexually when he was angry – the accusations he had refused.

He will be tried separately for his role in the company’s operation and has claimed to be innocent.

Outside RIM company documents, technical questions that are very detailed and emotional testimony at Times Holmes, there towering Silicon Valley’s question.

One of the most recurrent cliches in the world startup is “falsify until you succeed”, where an ambitious businessman with the idea that almost works convincing people to invest a large amount of money with hopes someday.

It is very rare for entrepreneurs from the failed Silicon Valley company – where there are many – to face fraudulent prosecution for unrealized promises and not returned investments.

Some world leaders of technology, such as the former Head of Reddit Ellen Pao, said sexism might be a factor in prosecution, but others think Holmes was too far in trying to support his vision that dissolved it.

After the 2015 Wall Street Journal reported what was questioning whether the therantos machines worked as promised – and ultimately dropped the company – Holmes carried out attacks on the media.
