MSI’s History

Before the establishment of MSI, Joseph Hsu, Jeans Huang, Frank Lin, Kenny Yu, and Henry Lu worked together at Sony. Their collaboration ended when Sony underwent organizational downsizing in 1985. This led the five engineers to found Micro-Star International in August 1986. Initially operating out of New Taipei City, Taiwan, MSI expanded its operations to China, establishing its Bao’an plant in Shenzhen in 2000 and R&D centers in Kunshan in 2001. Today, MSI provides global warranty services across Europe, Australia, Asia, South and Central America, and North America.

Operations

MSI’s corporate headquarters are located in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, where several company divisions and services are based. Although MSI started its manufacturing in Taiwan, it has since expanded its production facilities to mainland China, focusing on producing graphics cards. The company also maintains branch offices in the Americas, Australia, Asia, Europe, and South Africa. As of 2015, MSI operated in over 120 countries.

Products

MSI initially gained recognition for its graphics cards and motherboards. In 2008, the company expanded into the car infotainment industry by establishing its subsidiary, FUNTORO. Today, MSI offers a wide range of products, including all-in-one PCs, mobile workstations, IPCs, servers, multimedia peripherals, laptops, car infotainment systems, desktops, motherboards, monitors, graphics cards, computer cases, power supplies, and liquid coolers designed for gamers and content creators.

Conclusion

In its early years, MSI was a distributor of computer components in Taiwan’s burgeoning personal computer industry. Over time, the company evolved to design and produce its own motherboards, graphics cards, and other computer hardware. MSI is now recognized as one of the leading global producers of computer hardware, known for its high-quality products and innovative designs. To address the initial query, MSI is not a Chinese company but a Taiwanese multinational corporation with a significant international presence.
